I also don't like hearing of support for just small businesses, we need some of all sizes. Every time we cannot fulfill our needs with what is local we have to travel outside the city or order it delivered which results in a loss of jobs and tax revenues. Also the chant to rid us of the super rich and large corporations has been transforming to all personal wealth including all businesses, large and small, it has takenon a much broader meaning.
I have not chimed in yet on the city council having the power to grant rental licenses and how this can harm the rental market. The inspection process is already incredibly biased with who gets a real inspection and who does not. Certain properties barely pass their inspections at much continued costs while others float through with obvious concerns. Now we are going to add the personalities and prejudices of our city council which is already viewed on extremely opinionated and even punitive. Will someone they personally do not like be able to possess a license?
Has anyone looked into the financial reprocussions if development continues to dip and we can no longer meet some of the requirements for receiving state funds as a grant vs loan. We accepted a lot of money and resources from the Met Council on it was not free. There are several political platforms that have been affecting it that could get much worse depending on who gets elected, it could get worse. Perhaps the rhetoric needs to slow either way and the fact that is not is could be telling as to who really cares about our comunity
