Thank you for a well reasoned and thoughtful analysis. The "Abolish Ice" contingents that I am personally aware of are not DFLers, they are younger leftists and/or anarchists and not major party types. They might be in 3rd parties such as the Party for Socialism and Liberation. In 2025, 75 Democrats in the House voted in support of honoring ICE, that is more than 1/3rd and this included our own MN Rep. Angie Craig. Both major parties have supported massive funding for ICE and will no doubt continue to.
Those who want ICE dismantled completely who are DFL party members (DSA?) should leave the DFL Party because it does not align with their goals. Quit trying to push them somewhere they don't want to go. Form or join a party that aligns. This allows the DFL to present itself clearly and gives voters transparency. Added plus - with more parties, more choices.
I respect the Brooklyn Park Police Chief who points out the dangerous mismanagement of ICE under Trump. We need his speaking out right now because our city is being terrorized, under attack from unconstitutional actions. We can hash out ideological divisions later when this nightmare is over.
“Abolish ICE” is “Defund The Police” v. 2.0. If Dems want to lose this year and in 2028, that’s what we’ll do.
ICE has only become a problem within the last year when Trump took office. We need to turn the clock back, and install safeguards to prevent it from happening again.

I wave goodbye to the Democratic party as it sails off further into the left abyss
