let's not forget that the City of Minneapolis has been actively planning a new, centralized Community Safety Training and Wellness Center for emergency response professionals since at least 2021. It's not like the mayor just pulled this out of his ass last month and started asking for $38 million.

the attention seeking children on the city council are really disingenuous.

So much of what we see coming off of the Wonsley group/ the Chugleys is simply attention seeking, as they work over time to get noticed by the DSA aligned...around the country. Very unfortunate that these individuals are being paid, by us, to do this, ( which mostly turns out to be a big nothing) and a huge waste of time and money, as we watch them demonstrate no actual, tangible, interest in the work of city governance.

Note that NOT one of these "representatives" seems to be rolling up their sleeves and doing anything to MAKE SURE the 3rd Police Precinct opens at 2633 Minnehaha by this fall, six years after this loss for these 26 neighborhoods. But, of course, they would prefer to see THAT project languish, since there is zero support for the MPD or policing by them.

"Minneapolis could benefit from an independent budget and contract review function similar to the Congressional Budget Office. A team of nonpartisan analysts reviewing budget decisions and their impacts..." This is good idea. A fraction of the money spent on the billionaire's contracts could be spent on the review staff. As a socialist myself (not DSA) I would never support funding a company like Axon for those huge amounts for police accessories. Thanks for that illuminating information, as usual!

I would rather see the DSA aligned out filling potholes and doing something useful for once.

Consensus building is not a skill valued or practiced by the Wonsley led group, who continue to be the poster children for the problems resulting when activists are elected who lack the knowledge, skills and attitude required for good governance.

Honestly she makes me sick to my stomach. Here's one of her examples from Facebook:

WONSLEY FOR MINNEAPOLIS

Mayor Frey is once again attempting to push through $38 million for an MPD “cop city” training center–on top of the nearly $100 million Minneapolis is already spending on building renovations for MPD.

This money should instead be put into supporting our communities reeling from ICE's occupation. The proposed MPD training center is duplicative, unnecessary, and reflects MPD’s wish list rather than the city’s public safety needs and realities.

47% of 911 calls could be diverted away from an MPD response but Frey has delayed and stalled progress on alternative responses.

Last month, the Frey administration cut almost $5 million dollars from community safety programs like violence prevention and would have eliminated an embedded social worker position within MPD earlier this month if City Council hadn't intervened.

Our city should prioritize data-backed strategies to keep our communities safe and meet priority concerns like gun violence, domestic violence, and youth mental health rather than pour millions of dollars into an unnecessary building for a police department that did nothing to protect us from ICE.

Agree...

I think we are over thinking the problem, we actually just need to dumb it down a bit, this is about money and power, but mostly money. What we need is an actual audit, real one. They just want access to the millions and think they can do it through the anti-police rhetoric. Remember, the Feds cut funds to almost all other special projects, creating a need to recreate them on a local level. This is not to care for the needy but to continue to funnel any and all wealth from our community. If our loud, idealistic city council members are not getting rich from this wealth then they truly are dumber than they sound. It's time to get our neighbors to really see the greed for what it is and stop being afraid of being vilified ror listening and sharing reason and common sense.

I think to prove the thesis it needs more examples to show how this "influencer" behavior is different than regular politics. People communicate via social media, so politicians try to advocate for their messages on those platforms? You could convince me this is something different, but I just don't see it yet.

I'd like to see public reports on outcomes of policies & programs implemented from the 2040 Plan and other actions from the last 4-8 years. One example is the massive overhaul of eliminating car lanes for bike lanes, jutting curb corners etc. Their original claims were that it would decrease greenhouse gas emissions & improve pedestrian/bike safety. What are the greenhouse gas levels now compared to pre-pandemic levels? I've heard that car accidents had increased at one point a couple of years ago - did we trade safety for some at the cost of safety for many? AND WHAT'S THE TOTAL PRICE TAG FOR ALL THE CONSTRUCTION?
