There is a very strict, oppressive orthodoxy around “allyship.” I’m sick of the harping and hectoring, and I’m done with it all. The left is actually very clueless about why more and more people of color (many of whom don’t subscribe to this nonsense and/or are culturally more conservative) have turned to the right.

As Mike mentioned, winning elections should be a slam dunk for Democrats right now, but they are doing their very best to turn off almost everyone, including lifelong supporters.

Most of the women in the photos of Nekima are white. Ask the average Black woman if she supports Nekima's flame throwing rhetoric and I think she'd say "no". If Nekima thinks going to a 9 to 5 job every day, taking care of kids and maybe a husband, is "supporting the patriarchy", we are in trouble. No one should have to show their "credentials" when just trying to get by in this world and help some fellow human beings along the way.

Thank you for your comment. I found the statement vague and broad, which made it harder to see how it contributes to building a stronger coalition. I’m still trying to understand what specific outcome or change she hopes the message will encourage.

I saw a node-link (?) diagram a few months ago, depicting how Republicans were actually the party with the big umbrella, with Democrats being relatively narrow and unaccepting of alternative views. It came as a shock to me because it seems like it used to be the other way around. But it made sense when I realized the GOP housed so many disparate factions--traditional conservatives, White Christian Nationalists, culture warriors, libertarians, etc.

Nekima Levy Armstrong is the poster child for the Democratic intolerance. With her, it's "my way or the highway." Armstrong is loud, angry, abrasive, interrupts, and talks over people. She is not interested in your opinion, and there is no room for discussion. I'm not sure how she became anointed as "the" voice of progressives in Mpls, but every time there's a happening, the local media seeks her out for comment. She's certainly not shy about giving it.

Winning against Republicans these days ought to be easy, but far-left progressives are doing every thing they can to sabotage the path to political power. As the saying goes, "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory."

Good explanation of why identity politics are damaging. Feels like cult rules to me when acceptance is based on strict adherence to demands, and punishment is given for disobedience. Nor do I like blame assigned to entire groups of people for the bad actions of a few.

Can't help but notice only white women (who otherwise qualify) are welcome. Not white men. You'd think if you genuinely wanted to accomplish something, asking 30% of the population to help would be wise.

If you review the pictures and videos of events hosted by the non-profits who led the resistance against ICE actions, the vast majority of the participants are white and young. This is true for both protest events, and even for social events like community meals and gatherings.

Any normal person would say that white people "showed up" in Minneapolis, which is a good thing. Continually qualifying that participation with scolding academic leftist jargon (mostly originating from critical race theory and gender/queer studies) is self-defeating.

I am also concerned about the fracturing or lack of connections amongst minorities. I mostly see Somali residents and elected officials sticking to their corner, and Latinos and Asians sticking to theirs.

I don't see Council member Chavez at Iftar dinners (though I'm sure he'd be open to it), and I don't see any Somali-American elected officials (Cm. Osman, Sen. Fateh, Rep. Noor, Sen. Mohamed, Rep. Mahamoud) going to Latino churches or attempting to learn Spanish. That's upsetting as it's clear these different racial groups have their own goals, and views of one another.

Conversely, white people (especially women) are at Iftar dinners, and packing meals in church basements in south Minneapolis. Some of them speak Spanish and many of them cover their hair at events in Cedar Riverside. If anyone is trying, it's them.

And interesting synchronicity, the Liberal Patriot also just put out a sub stack on heterodoxy.

Which I must confess as a word I have to look at but every time I see it cuz I forget what it means lol
